The video FADE is a 45-minute cinematic journey from day into night. At a walking speed, the camera’s gaze glides through a landscape in the Swiss Plateau, the artist’s home. Foreground and background shift, thoughts meander. Dawn arrives inconspicuously.

Patrick Steffen’s image sequence records time and space on a 1:1 scale. Nothing is glossed over, cut, zoomed in, or commented on in any way. A vast field of sound and noises unfolds. FADE’s soundtrack combines many elements from Fritz Hauser’s sound library. The astonishing result can be seen in the way the sweeping landscape has absorbed the music.
