Im Kopf
Klang-, Raum-, Lichtinstallation, 2022

It is as if you can walk inside a head created by Fritz Hauser, Boa Baumann, and Brigitte Dubach. An acoustic and visual world of noises and tones, projections, light spaces, nested worlds of sound and fantasy. An incessant, changing sequence of associative images is linked to a holistic spatial concept—one that constantly reinvents perspectives and engages with the dialoguing works concurrently exhibited.

Underground Oasis

Or, to cheer myself up a bit, I could go
to the underground garden, the underground oasis,
that I have been tending and cultivating inside me for many years.
There are secrets there, secret healing powers and recipes,
for being able to live and survive.
There are thoughts patiently waiting there, whose leaves
quietly rustle, so as not to be forgotten.
There, ideas germinate and grow, in unimaginable variety, and
colors that know how to resist any despondency.
And I can also concede that this oasis is only a
fantasy of mine, a small cell in my head,
where I can meditate and try out new possibilities.
It is a silence enclosed by walls, without a single image of a saint.

before yesterday

not only yesterday, but much before that—i cut the colored gels into rectangles, placed them in filter frames, climbed up the ladder, and inserted them into the spotlight mounts.
light and colors for stage happenings—changing emotions, magic moments, people talking, singing, dancing, making music.
spaces shaped by light and colors, constantly shifting—ephemeral and disappearing in the darkness of night.
the presentation at the kunsthaus starts at the break of dawn.

with the energy of the sun, colors come to life once again.
daylight and the oblique winter sun paint roaming images in the space.
as the sun sets, the colors disappear into the darkness of the night without leaving any traces. remembrances of the colors perceived.

Biography

After following extensive training in the fields of dance and movement theater, residing in Colombia for several years, and studying at the University of Basel, Brigitte Dubach discovered the medium of light. Inspired by her own biography, she has worked with color and light for many years, mainly on stage projects featuring dancers. Born and raised in Emmental, the lighting designer now lives in Basel. Dubach also worked as a sound technician at Radio SRF, where she met Fritz Hauser during a radio play project. Since then, she has been working with him and the architect Boa Baumann in an interdisciplinary collaboration that has lasted for many years.

Among several stage projects, she developed the work Klanghaus Zug at the Kunsthaus Zug in 2012. In the summer of 2018, Brigitte Dubach was in charge of the lighting direction for different premieres of Fritz Hauser’s work during his time as Composer in Residence at the Lucerne Festival. She also provided subtle and harmonious lighting for Fritz Hauser’s solo programs Spettro and Trommel mit Mann. For Kunsthaus Baselland, Dubach has conceived a vast collage of color and light, which is able to consolidate the overall composition of space, sound, and artworks.
